MODA Blockheads: Block #9

Welcome to Week #9 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week is brought to you by the beautiful and adventurous, Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique. Check out her blog HERE. Vanessa is one of two Vanessa’s on the MODA team so sometimes my husband Eric refers to her as Vanessa 2.0 :-). She is also the one that he treats like a little sister while we are at Market… in the most annoying ways he can think of. Not sure how many different times something has “disappeared” from her booth and ended up somewhere else. Not sure if Vanessa will read this or not but… I guess you are officially our honorary little sister. Or at least Eric’s LOL.

Go over to her blog to check out her pattern and get all of the directions, etc. CLICK HERE . Inspired by her love of Taos… this block is a great, graphic block that adds a bit of the Southwest into this sampler.

Adding in a different cream to the center than to the outside was just one more way to add in a little bit of detail.

And that cute little felted house? Something I got a long long time ago on etsy and I just couldn’t resist using it as my “prop” this week. Wait till you see what lives inside of it… that will have to wait till next week.

But back to the block at hand… we went with the 8″ size for this block, with one red print for the center chain and then another for the outer portions. Like I mentioned above, we chose a different cream print for the inner section… one with red stars and a different one for the outside, cream with light tan text. It looks right at home with the other blocks, don’t you think?

LAYOUT

MODA has released the layout that we will be using as our choice, CLICK HERE for the PDF of the LAYOUT… we will be making option #2. Toward the end, we will make some final alternations but this will be our general layout throughout the program. We will also add in a few creative sashings at the end.

But for those of you who are wanting to work along with us, this is the tentative block breakdown [plus fillers] that we will be using:

12″ blocks: We will need to make 13.

8″ blocks: We will need to make 10.

6″ blocks: We will need to make 36.

4″ blocks: We will need to make 8 blocks. It is very likely that we might make a few more of Lissa’s sweet heart from last week.

Our quilt will be somewhere around 64″ x 72″… I say “somewhere” because once we add in a few filler rows, it might grow a little bit here or there.

QUICK UPDATE

CLICK HERE FOR THE ARCHIVE OF ALL OF THE MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 BLOCKS WE HAVE HAD SO FAR!

The Archive will be updated each week by MODA, in descending chronological order, with the newest block at the top. This is such a fabulous resource! We will keep this link in each week’s post here as a resource.

If you have any questions, ask me in the comments below. Happy sewing friends!
