Fig Tree’s Modern Building Blocks BOM

Star

I know we have yet to post booth pictures and finish up with our new patterns but this morning I wanted to share something new and exciting with you!

Modern building blocks quilted by natalia bonner of piece n quilt-1

… this is a picture of the original MODERN BUILDING BLOCKS KIT in the MODA booth. Quilted by the lovely Natalia Bonner and shown on her blog here. Stealing her photos shamelessly since ours didn't come out quite right.

Modern building blocks quilt for moda

During Market in Pittsburgh last week, MODA revealed one of their latest projects, the MODERN BUILDING BLOCKS KIT. It is an amazing quilt. Really. Created entirely out of MODA Bella Solids, the quilt is a wonderful assortment of various sizes [blocks range from 6" to 36"] and colors of blocks that make up an overall quilt that is a feast for the eyes.

Since our booth was directly across from the quilt for 4 days, we spent a lot of time staring right at it, dreaming of it in Fig Tree colors!

FigTreeModernBlocks1

… this is our Fig Tree version!

And so… we came home and recreated the quilt in just that [see above and below], Fig Tree colors. I was just a little bit obsessed I think :-). Trying to keep the original BELLA SOLIDS as much as possible, we replaced some of the fabrics with solid tone-on-tones and small prints from our upcoming SOMERSET collection. The background ivory will be the same as in the original, so a little whiter than our usual "cream", since that is the background that really helps all of these yummies to sparkle!

The result is a certainly "figgyfied" color version of MODA's BUILDING BLOCKS KIT but still pretty much the same feel of the original- since that is what we loved about it in the first place!

Bompartial
We are calling it FIG TREE'S MODERN BUILDING BLOCKS BOM! In it you will find 6 BELLA SOLIDS that we kept the same or close to the original, 7 upcoming SOMERSET fabrics and 2 current Fig Tree favorites. The kit will contain a total of 15 block fabrics plus binding along with the wonderful MODA FAN BOOKLET of patterns for the entire quilt.

Quilt backings will be offered separately closer to the end of the Block-of-the-Month.

For 7 months, each month we will send you a yummy packet of fabric to make sure you have enough to do the blocks for that month [and some more if you get excited]. MODA's pattern "fan" pack will be sent to you in the September shipment or as soon as we receive it [we will still send you pattern directions before the printed pack arrives]. There will be about 48 blocks in the quilt when finished but a few of the smallest blocks will be repeats.

We will also provide you with alternate setting options in case you would like to make 2 smaller quilts with all these lovely blocks!

Your shipments will begin in August with BELLA SOLIDS and current Fig Tree fabrics and will begin to include our SOMERSET fabrics as soon as it hits shelves in September, 2014.

We will work along side you in making our blocks and will show them on the blog, facebook and instagram. CLICK HERE for more info. We will take signups for the next 10 days or so or until we sell out!

We are so excited about this new project. Gotta get sewing!

I just signed up. I waffled on the other BOM and missed out.
I love the dimensionality of the quilt due to the different block sizes.I am also happy there will be prints. Mostly because it is Fig Tree of course!

    This seems awesome!

I really wish you were offering some similar visuals along-the-road-for your farmhouse BOM! My motivation is waning a bit on it, and it would be so inspiring to see a few fig tree style shots of finished blocks, at least!!!

We are doing that this week!  Maybe even this weekend…. Promise!

I’d love to buy just the patterns for the blocks, will that be possible?

Great!! I was about to comment the exact same thing at beritbunny above. I keep checking your blog but never see anything about the farmhouse BOM. It feels as if I’m doing it alone. It will be super great to see some of your photos and commentary on it. Thanks! (and did you mention having a button for our sidebar if we’re working on the BOM?)

These two BOMs are totally different but I love them both. The first one is totally vintage feeling. This one quite the opposite and yet they are both so amazing to look at for me. So glad that you decided to join us this time around!

I have signed up for the BOM and can’t wait to get it started! If you have a Bloggers button for it, I would like to receive it. Jennifer @ http://www.seamscrazyquilts.com. Lovely new collection coming out – saving my pennies!

The patterns are by MODA and I am sure that many stores will carry just the pattern booklet!
