MODERN AMERICAN VINTAGE COLLAB: FRUIT SALAD QUILTER’S CLAPPERS

I am not much for fads or having “the newest gadget”. But a beautifully created handmade tool…gets me every single time.

I simply cannot say enough good things about how beautiful these MODERN AMERICAN VINTAGE [MAV] quilting tools are and how good they feel in my hand and how much I am enjoying using them! This might sound funny… but I feel like these are “grown up” quilting tools and I adore them.

Over the last few years I have collected quite a collection of Chris’s tools ranging from long clappers to a sewing set of tools to charm pack clappers.

When Chris asked me about a collaboration last year, you know I was in the moment he mentioned it. “Sign me up”… exactly my words I believe and so here we are.

I was able to work directly with Chris at MAV in creating an exclusive PRE-ORDER for our newest Quilter’s Clapper collaboration: FRUIT SALAD in both NEUTRALS and COLORS!

……

Let me explain what you need to know…

First choose your favorite design [or if you can’t pick just one, maybe a pair or more depending on your needs and your budget]:

  • PEAR
  • STRAWBERRY
  • PINEAPPLE
  • CHERRIES

Next, choose your “style”. Chris has basically created two different collections… one with all “neutral” woods set on a warm base and one set with “color” woods set on a lighter base. They are all gorgeous and man I am so glad that I don’t have to choose just one of them because honestly I do not know how I would.

Personally, the neutral ones have my whole heart and I am totally OBSESSED with them. The color ones, however, are equally gorgeous just totally different in “flavor” if that makes any sense?

And last, order what your heart desires through Chris’s website. Remember that there is only a short ordering window and also… that they are ENTIRELY handmade by a small business. They are a life long quilting tool that will bring you joy every time you hold it… I guarantee that part!

They are solid and gorgeous and impeccably made so they are not cheap, but SO WORTH IT. I feel like these are the kinds of beautiful tools that we should be investing in instead of things that we buy and throw away. Just my two cents worth.

THE INSPIRATION: FRUIT SALAD

When talking through what Chris would feature for our collab, the fruits were at the top of the list for him and I could not agree more. They are such a wonderful way to add some quilty block beauty to his already magnificent clappers!

If you’ve been around for a while, you already know how much I love my fruit! Our FRUIT SALAD BOOK was released in 2023 which featured my FRUIT COCKTAIL fabric collection, and it includes 8 main fruit-themed quilts, and tons of bonus projects, too. View the full FRUIT SALAD BOOK BLOG POST for more details and photos.

……

You may have noticed one important fruit missing from the FRUIT SALAD BOOK….the STRAWBERRIES! Strawberries might be my first love – and I have a large group of strawberry patterns – in fact, check out THIS BLOG POST for a complete round-up of all things berry! Here’s a few…

……

And wouldn’t you know it? We have a full STRAWBERRY GARDEN BOOK, too! Check THIS BLOG POST for tons of details on this 2024 sampler book release, which also includes lots of quilty project extras.

TEAM NEUTRALS VS. TEAM COLORS

Which will YOU choose?!

I can’t decide…so I think I might just add all EIGHT to my collection….NO JUDGING… I consider this the quilty splurge of the year… if I *had* to pick, it’s the neutrals for me!

Thank you to everyone for supporting Chris and his wonderful company, Modern American Vintage, as we all work together to support small quilt businesses!

Happy Sewing,

-Joanna

I hope I’m not the only one, and I can Google it, but… What is a quilt clapper? I think I need a tutorial. 😂

Yes, you can for sure google it for all the uses.s But originally used in garment sewing to set seams, several years ago they became popular in quilting for setting seams after pressing. They make such a huge difference in my blocks. After I press the seam, I put the clapper on it while the fabric cools down. Its fabulous… and in this case, gorgeous and fabulous!

I was just going to ask the sane thing! Nit sure how I would use it or why. They’re pretty tho.

Clappers are wonderful for holding down your pieced blocks while you are sewing and these clappers are just gorgeous and a beautiful access to fig trees fabric.

Can’t wait to get one. Thank you for this beautiful opportunity.
