Welcome back to Week #6! We are just moving right along with this sampler!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you would like some more background info on the program, how it works or how we are planning on doing our version this year, please scroll back to the previous posts for all kinds of info…
This below is our starter palette and we will be adding creams, reds and greens throughout the program so if you have a chance to add in some of your own from your stash… go for it.
INTRODUCING BLOCK #6: SPINNING INTO SPRING by Linzee McCray
This is such a unique block…pretty sure I have never seen anything like it! It was fun to play with color placement on this one.
HOW WE DID OURS
This week Cynthia and I chose (2) reds, (1) green, (1) multi cream and a plain white on white for the background. Every once in a while adding in a white on white print for the background, or even a very tiny delicate print like a tiny pindot, really adds interest to a quilt. This time we chose a small floral white on white print for a little extra visual pop. I love the little soft cross in the center!
In terms of placement, working with a two color quilt, the cross in the center had to be a multi cream in order to stand out from both the red and the green. I felt like this print did the trick of feeling “different” enough without being too much of one color to blend in.
A couple quick tips on construction:
  • We cut our triangles oversized and trimmed to size as that is our preferred method.
  • We pressed seams open on the half square triangles and then toward the creams.
  • Pay attention to your half square triangle color placement when assembling the block
  • The center fabric is from our upcoming Christmas Stitched collection due out later this summer.
  • The red dot is from Holiday Americana by Stacy Iest Hsu.
  • The little multi print cross is from our Figs & Shirtings collection.
  • The green is from Fresh Fig Favorites.
  • The white on white is a MODA Muslin Mates.
Sorry for the delay…. MORE SETTING INFO COMING TOMORROW IN SEPARATE POST
As a reminder, here is the materials list for our setting:
  • a good collection of red fabrics in a variety of print, tone and scale [this will be the predominant color in our blocks and the greens will be more of accents
